Civic Engagement

When people of all perspectives learn about the power within themselves to contribute and make a difference, the result is meaningful change in the lives of individuals – with enduring impact on our community. Knowledge shared and broadened. Skills passed along in a chain that lengthens and strengthens with very fabric of our society. Social responsibility that not only recognizes cause and effect over an entire sphere of influence, but also responds in kind (56k video or 300k video).

At Stone Soup Fresno, the true culmination of our programs is in civic engagement. Here, people become ready to take on their roles in the American democratic system. Participants build skills as they receive information and guidance through a maze of unfamiliar territory. They build dreams as they learn to navigate opportunities.

Navigating the Systems

School, legal, housing, medical, police, SSI, Social Services and citizenship. Because even the smallest of challenges can seem insurmountable. Volunteers from the faith community work as active advocates to transitioning families, providing assurance and assistance. Together, we guide through paperwork and processes with support that might encompass the physical and financial as well as the emotional.

Convening Collaboration

Conferences, partnerships and alliances. On campuses and in the broader community, we are bringing people together for greater awareness and effectiveness. Valuing differences while embracing common goals (56k video or 300k video).

Encouraging Community Involvement

Establishing roots for growth. From programs for early education to health and wellness, we help people of all ages see and experience the power of participation to make a difference. Our first all-Hmong Girl Scout troupe earned badges on its way to a silver scout award by participating in events that would benefit the larger community. Graduates of our programs are now taking their rightful places in the world – giving back with their own gifts and talents.

Nurturing Leaders

Instilling a sense of purpose and confidence. A glimpse of the bigger picture. These leaders of today and tomorrow continue the cultivation as they model full civic participation. They are motivating those who come behind them – youngsters and families down the street, on campuses hundreds of miles away, or perhaps across the continent where their stories of success provide a guide for positive change amid challenge.
