Health

Through the vision of the Asian paradigm, we bring the tools of East and West together in a respectful and effective balance that speaks to the inseparable consideration of body, mind and soul. Responding to needs with integrated programs, we are replacing fear with understanding, caution with confidence, physical and emotional illness with hope and health.

Concern about children, worry over safety and security, fear of the unfamiliar. These are prevalent catalysts for declining health in resettlement communities like ours. While the consideration of sharply contrasting practices and deeply held spiritual beliefs might seem insurmountable, Stone Soup Fresno’s health programs are unifying people and principles while overcoming obstacles.

Health Education

Awareness and prevention. Health fairs, radio spots, DVDs and CDs spread information on the value of prevention. Skits by and for children engage attention. Through media, technology, drama and fun, prevention ideas and practices become memorable and meaningful, practical and effective.

Health Intervention

Screenings, flu shots, dental care (56k video or 300k video). Toward overcoming apprehension to both education and intervention, respected leaders help to present programs, encourage questions and foster comfortable discussion among smaller groups.

Mental Health and Family Function

Tradition in the familyFostering pride and focusing on family. Furthering cultural practices. The Hmong sport of Top Spin promotes exercise, agility and health among all ages, particularly older men. With Pa Ndau, women find an outlet in stitching intricate quilts and cloths, documenting the stories and history of their ancestors (56k video or 300k video). And in Qeej, people of all ages can find a sense of meaning and necessity in learning to play the traditional Hmong instruments so important to wedding and funeral ceremonies. Cultural Competency

Creating mutual understanding. Training the outside world to issues of awareness and inclusiveness. We are a welcome resource to professionals, from the front office to the physician. Expanding cultural understanding and know-how among organizations and business for the shared benefits of healing and good health.
